I'm not the kind of person who would normally spend a lot of money on accessories. When it comes to watches, I've never splurged on a timepiece. Watches these days are quite cheap so why the need for an expensive watch? Today, all that has changed. I spent quite a bit of money on a mechanical watch. I truly never expect myself to buy a watch, but hey, it's Christmas and I can certainly buy something nice for myself right?
So when I walked into a shop which specialises in Russian and German watches called Red Army Watches, I found myself drawn to a German Junkers watch. It is called the Chronographs JU 52 and it has an open-heart design that allows you to see the mechanism inside the watch. Yes, if you're an aviation buff, you'd recognise the company. It is the same company which made the famous Junkers JU 52 transport aircraft and bomber used during the War World II.
Something about that watch made me took a second look, and before long, I've decided that I like this watch and would want to have it as my own Christmas gift. So here I am, a proud owner of a mechanical watch, or what some folks would call-a watch with a soul. It is precisely the fact that such watches need to be wound up regularly that makes them unique. In any case, this watch is a beauty. It's simple in its design and, like the aircraft which inspired it, is a steady work of German design.Actually, I'm quite surprised that my mention of Project 365 is getting response from some folks on Vox. Anyway, it's something to try out for a new year. I guess it's easy to start something, but tough to keep it going. For me, I guess I just have to consistent and persistent. Most importantly, keep an eye open for things to snap... and also not be shy about whipping out my Treo in public.
I guess I'm also going to test drive this thing for the rest of the year before I kick my 365 project into full gear next year. Good luck to me!
